One of my favorite bars in New Orleans. The decor has changed a lot, unfortunately, but the round bar still rotates! And the cocktails are excellent. I recommend the Vieux Carré, invented at the Monteleone Hotel in 1938 by Walter Bergeron.

Dean, I hate to contradict someone with as sterling taste as you, but every time I have been to the Carousel Bar the drinks have been sub-awful. I mean, vile and undrinkable. Granted it’s always been during the Tales of the Cocktail weekend,, but then again if there is one weekend when they need to be on their A-game, that’s it!
James, I bet the bartenders aren’t consistently good, but you should have gone there in’99 when it was really bad! It definitely has improved since then, though it’s certainly not on a par with most new cocktail bars in the city. And the Sazerac and Ramos Fizz are nothing special compared to the Roosevelt’s bar or many others in town. I appreciate your opinion. Thanks!
